The Facility Governing Board of NorthWest Community Corrections Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the female wing addition.

“This program can house up to 32 women,” said Cary Williams, NWCCC executive director. “We’ll be doing a lot of cognitive behavior thinking therapy, gender specific programs for women, GED, work program, vocational skills, and more.”

The ceremony was held Tuesday and was followed by an opportunity to tour the new addition.

NWCCC is a community-based correctional facility that serves the common pleas courts of Wood, Williams, Fulton, Henry, and Defiance counties. The expansion will allow NWCCC to provide programming and services to female offenders from the five-county area.

The program is a maximum of six months. The resident’s length of stay depends on a variety of different assessments and program-tracking tools utilized by staff members. The four-phase system allows residents to advance to the next phase if their required goals are met in the program.

Programming and services provided include substance abuse intervention, cognitive-behavioral therapy, anger management, medication assisted treatment, vocational programming, manufacturing certification, GED and a work for pay program

The $6.4 million in state capital funding for the design and construction of this project was allocated by the state legislature. The project was approved through a collaborative effort with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and the Wood County Commissioners.

“The staff are amazing here. A lot of us at the management level have been focused on this addition. The front-line staff have been amazing at just holding everything down over there,” Williams said. “Every day, they come in and do their jobs. I honestly could not talk about a staff better than I am right now. They have my highest praise, and they deserved to be recognized for all the hard work they have put in.”
