BG woman reports losing $3,734 to employment fraud

Bowling Green Police were dispatched Friday to the 1600 block of Juniper Drive for a report from a woman who lost money to a fraudulent job offer.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the alleged victim who stated that she applied for a remote billing position based out of an office in Florida.

According to the Bowling Green Police Division report, the alleged victim stated that over the course of a couple weeks, she received a text message from an “Erin Rodriguez” indicating that her application was accepted.

The victim stated that she interviewed with a woman named “Daniela Seabrook” on Microsoft Teams, receiving a “conditional offer” of employment. The victim was advised they would be receiving two checks in the mail to purchase the equipment needed for their position, according to the report.

The victim stated that she deposited two checks into her bank account in the amounts of $2,850.20 and $2,735.50, being advised to send Apple Cash payments of $100 and $500 to “Jordan Robinson” using their phone number, according to the report.

The victim was them directed to send $50 via Zelle to “Alex Mdonu,” $51.99 to be purchased in Bitcoin, and was directed to send $1,585, $1,000, and $447.92 via PayPal to “Christel Entertainment Store,” according to the report.

The victim stated that after she sent the payments to who were said to be the company’s vendors, she noticed the checks were both reversed out of her account due to being counterfeit.

The alleged victim stated she filed a dispute through the bank to get their money back. The total amount stolen was $3,734.91, according to the report.

Officers then called the numbers that the victim had given them. Officers called “Jordan Robinson” but was unable to keep him on the line, according to the report.

Subsequent calls went unanswered. Officers could not locate relevant information on the internet and were unsuccessful in reaching anyone, according to the report.
