Two men were arrested for passing counterfeit bills in the city.

Police on Wednesday were dispatched to the 1000 block of South Main Street for a report of a suspicious incident. A male was seen attempting to pay with a possibly counterfeit $100 bill, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

When officers arrived around 3:23 p.m., they found the male on the ground in a nearby parking lot, with a good Samaritan on top of him to prevent escape.

The male was placed into handcuffs and was identified as Detevin Butts, 29, Charlotte, North Carolina. Butts had $267 in his pocket along with miscellaneous change, according to the report.

Officers later identified a 16-year-old male involved in the incident, according to the report.

After further investigation, officers determined that Butts attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at one store after successfully passing a counterfeit $100 bill at another store. Butts was positively identified by store employees, according to the report.

Butts was arrested for two counts of forgery and obstructing official business and taken to jail.

According to the police report, shortly after this incident the 16-year-old at the same time had passed a $100 counterfeit bill at a different store.

The 16-year-old male had $217 in cash and a 1.5-gram marijuana blunt in his pockets. The store manager positively identified the 16-year-old male as the subject, according to the report.

He was arrested for forgery, possession of drugs and possession of marijuana. He was taken to the juvenile detention center, where Ecstasy was found during a search, which led to an additional drug possession charge.
