Kay J. Benschoter, age 89, of Cygnet, Ohio passed away peacefully Monday July 15, 2024, at his home.
He was born on July 25, 1934, in Portage Twp, Ohio to the late Dean and Ada (Long) Benschoter. He married Sharon L. Bartrum on August 5, 1957, in Monroe, Michigan.
Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Sharon, children John (Rhonda) Benschoter of Cygnet, Ohio, Thomas Benschoter of Cygnet, Ohio, Teresa Benschoter of Bloomdale, Ohio; sister, Jean Wood of Findlay; sister-in-law Peggy Kagy of Bloomdale, Ohio; grandchildren Matt (Shelby) Smelser, Jennifer Smelser, Benjamin Smelser, Tyler (Audra) Benschoter, Kyle (Darla) Benschoter, Nathan, Kendahl, Reghan and Sawyer Benschoter; great-grandchildren Lane, Loften, Lowen, Joshua, Callen, Ella, and Maxton.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Dean and Ada, daughters Diane Smelser and Susan Benschoter; brother Robert Benschoter; brother-in-law, Steve Wood; and great-granddaughter Tenley.
Kay graduated in 1952 from Portage Township High School and then joined the Navy from 1952-1955. He went to work at Libby Owens Ford in Rossford, Ohio, where he retired after 31 plus years. He was also a farmer that was capable of building anything from scratch. He truly enjoyed wood working and was also a man of God.
Friends will be received from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, July 19, 2024, at Barndt Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday July 20, 2024, at 11:00 am with his grandson, Kyle Benschoter, officiating.
The burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Wayne, Ohio.
