Groups: Garden Group of Women’s Club of Bowling Green

Garden Group of GFWC Women’s Club of Bowling Green gathered on June 18 at the home of Phil and Joan Hollenbaugh to tour their home garden consisting principally of hostas and daylilies, plus myriads of other colorful plantings tended to over many years. Mr. Hollenbaugh gifted each attendee with a hosta to take home.

After the tour, members moved to the home of Carol Ballard for social time and snacks provided by Ballard and Co-Hostess Shelly Sabo. Co-President Susan Enright opened the meeting with each member answering roll call with the name of her choice as best place to purchase fresh vegetables. Enright presented abbreviated reviews of Astrantia and Caladium for absent members and explained that different plants are randomly picked and assigned in an effort to learn and share about plants we might otherwise never know.

In old business, Enright announced that sign-up for 2024-2025 programs is complete except September. Slots for watering at the north end welcome sign are complete; it would be helpful to remind the group following each two week assignment of their turn.

The Holiday Art & Craft Show raffle basket theme is “Think Spring” and we already have a welcome sign with large sunflower as the main gift – donated by Jo Sipes. Please share any prospective ideas or purchases before spending so there are not duplicates.

Next meeting will be July 16 at 3 p.m. at the home of Pam Vollmar, who will need an estimate for attendance as she will be directing an activity making casts of leaves. Attendees are reminded to bring disposable gloves, a disposable container (like Cool Whip), and a small leaf to cast and take home.
