Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe has announced a contract extension for head baseball coach Kyle Hallock. Hallock’s contract now runs through June 30, 2029.

“What head coach Kyle Hallock has done at BGSU in the last four years is one of the greatest stories in college baseball today. It is one thing to build a program when the mission and vision are clear; however, it takes great grit and determination to rebuild a program from the ashes,” said van der Merwe.

“Coach Hallock has exceeded all expectations with his conference championship this year. Not only is he an exceptional coach, he is an outstanding role model to his team, my staff, this program, and to our campus of what is possible at BGSU.”

Hallock is coming off his fourth season at the helm of the Falcons, taking over prior to the 2021 campaign. In 2024, Hallock and the Falcons captured the MAC regular season title, the program’s first since 2009, tallying a program record 24 wins.

The accomplishments earned Hallock the MAC Coach of the Year award. The Falcons finished with a 24-6 MAC record, tying the program record for MAC winning percentage in a season (.800).

This came after a historic 17-0 start to MAC play for BGSU, the longest winning streak to start MAC play in conference baseball history and the second-longest in BGSU Athletics history.

Additionally, BGSU had nine players receive a program record 14 All-Conference honors at the conclusion of the regular season. As a team, the Falcons broke the program records for walks drawn (310), strikeouts thrown (403) and fielding percentage (.976).

Offensively, the Falcons averaged 9.2 runs per game, ranking eighth in the nation, registered a program record 33 RBI in a game against Ball State and scored the second-most runs in program history for a game with 34 against Ball State. In total, BGSU tied or broke nine records across program history for single-game, single-season and career.

“I would also like to recognize our players and thank them for sticking together to create an unrivaled allegiance to BGSU baseball,” Hallock said. “The landscape in college athletics has changed over the past four years but their loyalty to what we are creating is nothing short of elite.”

During his time leading the Falcons, BGSU has witnessed Kyle Gurney become just the second player in program history to receive Academic All-America honors multiple times.

Additionally, D.J. Newman was named a Freshman All-American by four different media outlets on top of being named MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-MAC as a DH at the conclusion of the 2023 season. The 2023 campaign also included a win over No. 5 Louisville, the program’s first win against a Top 5 opponent.

Joining Hallock in the extension will be the entirety of the BGSU coaching staff, consisting of assistant coach and recruiting director Matt Rembielak, and assistant coaches Joey Gamache and Joey Cooper.

Over four seasons at the helm of the Falcons, Hallock has tallied a 91-114 record, being 69-69 in conference play. The team has posted a program-record for Academic All-MAC selections in three of the four seasons under Hallock, culminating in a league-high 17 in 2023 and a total of 56 honorees over his four seasons.

Over four seasons under Hallock, the Falcons have had three players named Freshman All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans, two MAC Freshman Players of the Year, one MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, five All-MAC First Team selections, eight All-MAC Second Team selections and six All-MAC Defensive Team selections.
