Lake Twp. approves renewal tax

MILLBURY — The Lake Township Board of Trustees approved a resolution of necessity for levying a five-year renewal tax.

The levy will continue to fund the fire department, specifically providing and maintaining fire apparatus, appliances and buildings as well as paying for personnel.

The 1-mill levy is set to expire at the end of this year. It will appear on the November ballot.

“This five-year renewal, which is not a new tax, goes back to the 1980s. It is a main funding resource for the township,” said township Trustee Richard Welling at the June 18 meeting.

“It brings in about $265,000. It is very important that we maintain this five-year renewal. We’re not asking for any additional funding, just a renewal of the fund,” said Trustee Melanie Bowen-Greenwald.

The board also approved the contract with the Wood County Engineer’s Office to chip seal treat Cummings Road from Latcha Road to Ohio 795 for the sum of $19,977.53; and Walbridge Road from Tracy Road to East Broadway Road for the sum of $17,056.48.
