The Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees has honored longtime supporters with namings in various spaces on campus.

In the state-of-the-art Michael and Sara Kuhlin Center, the board approved the naming of the Dave Horger Media Production Studio. The studio honors the well-known voice of Falcon basketball from 1990-2003 and co-founder of The Morning Show on WBGU-FM.

“Dave has continued to remain active in the community,” said Pam Conlin, vice president for BGSU Advancement and president/CEO of the BGSU Foundation, Inc. at the trustees’ June 20 meeting. “He and his wife are loyal Falcons and have found ways to contribute to the university. Our colleagues mentioned his his love of radio production.”

Horger came to Bowling Green in October 1979 and worked on air with WFOB radio. He then went to 88.1, the BGSU station.

He is known as the “voice of the Falcons,” announcing 13 years of basketball and 12 years of football from the late 1980s to 2003. He was instrumental in starting “The Morning Show” in 2007.

Horger was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2013 and retired soon after.

Over the years, Dave and Cathy Horger, a 1974 graduate, have supported BGSU athletics and are longtime members of the Falcon Club. The couple has also supported the Falcon Club Scholarship and Success Fund, the Women’s Basketball Enhancement Fund and the Men’s Basketball Enhancement Fund. Both are recognized as members of the Presidents Club, Leadership Circle and Carillon donor recognition societies.

The Slater Family Ice Arena also had several areas named for supporters.

As a four-year member of the BGSU hockey team, Eldred earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from the university in 1997 and went on to play professional hockey for nearly six seasons. He has supported BGSU through gifts to the Bridge to BG Scholarship Fund, the Ice Hockey Enhancement Fund, the Varsity BG Club and The Excellence Fund. Elfred is also recognized as a member of the Presidents Club and Leadership Circle and Carillon donor recognition societies.

Eldred is the structural heart watchman territory manager for Boston Scientific.

Currently, Lewis serves as a financial advisor and limited partner for Edward Jones Investments.

The board voted to name multiple suites and a bar in honor of the generosity of BGSU alumni.

The James Craig Koehler Founders Suite was established to recognize 1945 graduate James C. Koehler, who has supported BGSU through gifts to the Excellence Fund and Alumni Fund.

He is also a member of The Presidents Club and Leadership Circle donor recognition societies.

Lifelong supporters of BGSU hockey Scott A. Slater and his family were also honored with the naming of the Slater Family Founders Suite.

In 2016, Slater made a gift for the renovation of Slater Family Ice Arena

Recognized by the board for her continued support of BGSU, Linda C. Ueltschy was honored with the naming of the Dr. Linda C. Ueltschy Bar, located on the second floor of the ice arena.

Ueltschy joined BGSU in 1998 as an associate professor of management, specializing in international business and marketing. She was awarded the status of professor emeritus of international business upon retirement from BGSU.

“Linda was one of the first donors to say she wanted to name something in the project,” Conlin said. “She’s naming the gathering space (professionally referred to as “The Bar”) up on the second floor of the new mezzanine level. We’re really excited about these projects (and the opportunities the donors are now seeing).”
