BGCS taxpayers are not an endless piggy bank

To the editor,

As we celebrate freedom this 4th, it seems BGCS wants a return to British rule with cut throat taxation. Monumental tax increases passed just months ago have many people struggling. BGCS wants another never ending income tax levy that will go after anything you have left. BGCS does not have a funding problem, but rather a spending problem. While they promised to be good stewards, actions say otherwise. High taxes along with a hiring spree of a new P.R. position and “yes men” for the superintendent is setting BGCS up for disaster.

With a 30% poverty rate, more permanent taxes will increase hardships and foreclosures. Lawyers and real estate shot callers involved with this levy are waiting to profit as economic conditions deteriorate before our eyes.

Never ending taxes are detrimental to those with health issues, single incomes, and/or retired on a budget. Some say that everyone is taxed fairly, but reality says otherwise. Lower earners find it harder to pay bills with escalating taxation, while high earners might just have to cut the Christmas cruise by a few days when taxes go up.

Treasurer Feasel stands firm that BGCS has gone 14 years without new district funds. Seriously? Pipeline money, State budget increases, and permanent tax increases have boosted revenue by the millions, while reckless spending is flushing district savings down the drain. The administration thinks the only solution to anything is more taxes.

Ridiculous.

Thank You to Peggy Thompson for her understanding of reality in these trying times. Her compassion and dedication to taxpayers is refreshing compared to the disdain from the rest of the administration that wants any opposition hanging from the gallows.

Last fall many were told that tax increases would “only cost a pizza,” but your tax bill says otherwise. Meanwhile, (per ST real estate transfers), many individuals who campaigned for the high taxes have fled town.

Stopping this nonsense will be our only chance to prevent BGCS from depriving us of our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with more permanent taxes. We need an administration that listens instead of one that sits on a throne and shouts.

The only check BGCS needs is a big reality check. The taxpayers are not an endless piggy bank for careless spending. Enough Is Enough. It’s beyond time to restore fiscal accountability at BGCS.

God Bless America!
