The Wood County Green Party on Monday marked the second anniversary of the Dobbs Decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

Green Party officials conducted a protest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Main and Wooster streets. A discussion on the impact of the decision on American women took place Monday night in the Veteran’s Building in City Park.

“I’m very happy with the turnout today,” said Joe DeMare, co-chairman of the Wood County Green Party. “People have come to protest the terrible decision. We called the protest two years ago on the day that it happened and about 100 people turned out. I think Ohio did a great job in passing the referendum last year (that protected abortion rights here).”

Eighteen people turned out for the protest.

“We can’t forget that for millions of women in America, they’re living in states that restrict access to healthcare,” DeMare said. “We cannot let that happen because it’s an essential freedom for women to get to decide when and whose child they carry. This issue fits in with the Green Party’s key value of feminism, so that’s one of the reasons we’ve supported abortion rights ever since we were founded (in the 1980s).”

“We started a private group on Facebook (Bowling Green Persists). It was primarily to safeguard women and femininity because at the time, all our rights had been taken away from us. We did not want women to lose housing, jobs, or anything that could have come from that (Dobbs Decision). We have about 300 members currently,” said Holli Gray-Luring, Bowling Green. “I am here today to not only safeguard our rights but to keep us bonded together. We must continue to keep our voices present and fighting.”
