Ottawa man pleads guilty to importuning

An Ottawa man has pleaded guilty to importuning.

Neil Diemer, 54, appeared Thursday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman.

He entered pleas of guilty to importuning, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and possessing criminal tools.

“There is a factual basis in support of our plea,” said defense attorney Scott Coon.

According to court documents, Diemer was indicted Nov. 1 for attempted rape, a first-degree felony; importuning, a third-degree felony; disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a fifth-degree felony; and possessing criminal tools, also a fifth-degree felony.

The attempted rape charge will be dismissed at sentencing.

On Sept. 8, he solicited a law enforcement officer posing as a juvenile less than 13 years old to engage in sex and also provided the officer with material that was obscene.

He used a Samsung Galaxy A14 criminally.

Kuhlman said the importuning charge had a possible prison sentence of 36 months while the lesser felonies each had a possible prison sentence of 12 months.

He can impose consecutive sentences for a total of five years or place the defendant on five years of community control, Kuhlman said.

Diemer must register as a Tier I sex offender, which will require him to register every 12 months for 15 years.

He will be required to forfeit a 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500.

Sentencing was set for Aug. 15.
