Wood County deputy shoots, kills armed man

RUDOLPH — A Wood County sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man who reportedly was pointing a rifle at law enforcement.

This morning at 12:52 a.m., deputies responded to a rural address near Rudolph for a health and welfare check. The caller informed the dispatcher that the subject in question was suicidal.

Upon arrival, deputies were trying to deescalate the situation when the subject pointed a rifle at a deputy, according to the sheriff’s office press release.

In response, the deputy fired his handgun once, striking the subject.

Deputies immediately performed first aid, including CPR; however, the subject passed away, according to the release.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Bureau of Criminal Investigations to investigate this incident. BCI is being assisted by the sheriff’s office, the Wood County coroner and the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office.
