Bowling Green police arrested a man who drove from Arizona to Ohio with no license plate on his vehicle but allegedly stole a plate in Maumee.

That stolen plate was observed on one of the city’s license plate readers.

On Wednesday, Bowling Green police were dispatched to a gas station in the 1600 block of East Wooster Street for a parked silver Toyota with the stolen plate.

When questioned, the driver, identified as Thomas Allen, 53, Ronda, Arizona, confessed he had stolen the plate in a Toledo motel parking lot and put it on the car, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Allen explained that they had their plate confiscated by police during a traffic stop for expired tags, according to the report.

Allen, who was traveling with his wife, told police that she had nothing to do with it.

The couple were registered as owners of the vehicle. The plate was confirmed stolen by dispatch with Toledo police.

Allen was arrested for receiving stolen property and was taken to jail.
