Lake Twp. accepts resignation of fire chief

MILLBURY — The Lake Township Board of Trustees has accepted the resignation of fire Chief Barrett Dorner.

Interim Deputy Chief Dave Henninger has assumed the command of the fire department.

“It made sense. He agreed to do it for the next six months. Our priority right now is the renewal levy in the fall. That’s what we need to concentrate on the most,” said Melanie Bowen-Greenwald, trustee chairperson, at the May 28 meeting. “If the levy doesn’t pass, then you won’t have much of a department left. It’s a little over $200,000. It’s crucial for our operations. Once things settle down, then we’ll look for a new chief. I think having a full-time fire chief is important.”

Bowen reported it is currently thistle season.

“We’ve had a lot of rain and we have to deal with the issue. It’s become a real issue for the farmers. If you have noxious weeds, a sign will be put up in the owner’s property saying they have to take care if the noxious weeds.” Bowen-Greenwald said.

To report noxious weeds, call the Administrative Office at 419-838-6536.

• Sue Brinker, Tracy Road, asked if anyone was monitoring the weight of the trucks that have been damaging the road. Brinker also requested that there be a traffic light installed at the intersection of Ohio 20 and Tracy Road.

Arlon Brinker, Tracy Road, stated that the port authority has the resources to make the proper repairs to Tracy Road.

Joe Zemenski, Bailey Road, also talked about the trucks on Tracy Road and hopes that the nearby dirt mound gets taken care of.

• Free woodchips are available at the Road Department on Ayers Road. Call 419-836-1143.

The next board meeting will take place on June 4, in the Administrative Hall at 5:30 p.m.
