Bicyclist dies after crash on Slippery Elm Trail

RUDOLPH – A bicyclist who was struck by an automobile while on the Slippery Elm Trail Monday has died.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has identified the rider as Andrew Bell, 32, Findlay.

Bell was taken by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital with life-threatening injuries after failing to stop as he crossed Ohio 281 on the Slippery Elm Trail.

Deputies responded to the area at 5:20 p.m. where, according to their report, Bell was riding northbound and failed to stop at Route 281. As he entered the roadway, he was struck by a Chevy SUV, which was traveling east.

Bell was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.
