BGSU hockey drops game 2, concluding season

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (13-22-1, 11-12-1 CCHA) dropped the second game of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association quarterfinals to the Michigan Tech Huskies (17-14-6, 12-10-2 CCHA) by a score of 6-5 on Saturday night in MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

The Falcons and Huskies went back and forth, starting with Ethan Scardina shooting the puck below the goal line and to the back of the Huskies’ net for a 1-0 lead. Scardina tallied his sixth of the season with assists coming from Brandon Santa Juana and Brody Waters.

Spencer Kersten responded soon after, netting a power-play goal for the early 2-0 lead. Kersten finished a sequence starting with Brett Pfoh to Ethan Scardina for an early 2-0 BG lead. Blais Richartz scored the lone goal for the Huskies at the end of the first period, ending the period 2-1 and in favor of the Falcons.

The Huskies opened the scoring in the second frame, scoring two within the first minute of puck drop. Brett Pfoh halted their momentum with a goal at 11 minutes into the second. Jaden Grant guided the puck down the ice and Pfoh picked it up, shooting it to the back of the Huskies net to tie the game up at three. The second assist coming from Tommy Pasanen.

Ben Doran regained the lead for the Falcons, two-minutes later on a power-play. Doran deflected the loose puck past the Huskies goaltender to regain the lead 4-3. Assist came from Michael Bevilacqua and Eric Parker. Michigan Tech scored two in the last couple minutes of the second, leading by one going into the final period.

The Falcons and Huskies both tallied one in the final stanza. Pfoh made the first tally with two minutes into the third with help from Jaden Grant, tying the game up at five. The Huskies and Falcons battled through the third until Ryland Mosley from Michigan Tech hit the back of the Falcons net to regain the lead with a little over a minute to go in the game.

Three Falcons recorded a multi-point night. Brett Pfoh recorded three points on the night scoring two goals and recording an assist. Pfoh ended the season with nine goals and six assist, which ended third in points production along side Josh Nodler. Leading total point production on the year was Ryan O’Hara with 18 points and right behind him was Spencer Kersten with 16 points.

Ethan Scardina recorded points on the night, with one goal and one assist. Scardina recorded five goals and five assist on the season and tallies 22 goals and 18 assist in the Orange and Brown.

Jaden Grant recorded two assists on the night and ended the season with 11 total assists. Grant finished the season, leading the Falcons in total assist on the season.

Six other Falcons recorded points on the night. Michael Bevilacqua, Brandon Santa Juana, Eric Parker, Tommy Pasanen and Brody Waters each recorded one assist. While Spencer Kersten and Ben Doran, each recorded a goal.

Christian Stoever recorded 34 saves on the night, tallying his second-best game of the season. Stoever recorded 38 saves at Augustana on October 14.
