BGCS accepts nearly $20G in donations

Bowling Green City Schools accepted nearly $20,000 in donations at its February meeting.

Donations accepted included $1,500 to Conneaut Elementary from Wood County Plays Inc.; $30 to the Inspirational Educator Award from Conneaut PTO, $30 from Crim PTO, $30 from Kenwood PTO and $30 middle school PTO; $300 to the high school drama club from Diane Shetzer; and $4,040 to the Lauren Rex Memorial Scholarship from Bowling Green Rotary Club Inc.

Addition donations that were accepted were $100 to After Prom from Marsh & Rothenbuhler LLC, $100 from CraftCo, Inc. (Ben’s), $3,132.28 from the Bowling Green Community Foundation, $300 from Evans Insurance, $50 Bethany and Nathan Ash, $100 from Phipps, Shevlin, Hebeka Dentistry and $500 from Falcon Nest, LLC; $500 to Bobcat Basics-elementary schools from Jack and Betty Whitacre; $200 to the Panksepp, Quinn, Sanders & Wolfe Scholarship from Kelsey Kuhlman, $200 from Huntington Chiropractic & Wellness LLC, $200 from Alicia Kelso; and $3,000 to the Patrick De Luca Memorial Scholarship from Emily Gertsen Loen.

Donations also totaled $1,900.58 to SAB for new mascot at BGHS from the Athletic Booster Club; $100 for lunches from David Donley and $25 from Karen Wood and David Donley; $100 to Jr. Bobcat Basics from the Fite/Waldron family; $2,500 to Bobcat Basics from BG Noon Kiwanis; $20 to 2024-2025 Crim 5th Grade Camp from Tyson Richmond; snacks valued at $50 to Crim Elementary from Judy Herr; snacks valued at $60 to Conneaut Elementary from Eileen Underwood and Richard Rowlands; winter wear valued at $200 to Crim Elementary from an anonymous donor; books, hygiene products and snacks valued at $140 to the media centers, Bobcat Basics and Kenwood Elementary from Ginny and Scott Stewart; school supplies via Staples donation kit fundraiser valued at $20 from BGCS Staples Bowling Green; and school supplies valued at $80to Crim Elementary from MJHOWICK, Inc. in care of Michael Howick.

Donations totaled $19,537.86.

A list of requests for each building was also shared at the meeting.

Kenwood Elementary needs snacks and small cups for water.

Conneaut Elementary needs cases of water, youth underwear, youth pants and youth shorts.

Crim Elementary needs small, medium and large unisex sweatpants; Goldfish; and Cheez-Its.

The middle school is requesting granola bars and breakfast bars.

The high school is requesting packaged snacks.

Care should be taken to make sure none of the snacks contain peanut products.

Donations can be made to each school toward negative school lunch balances but write in the memo line of the check where the funds should go.

Also at the meeting, the school board:

• Accepted the resignation of Courtney Allard as high school English teacher effective Aug. 3.

• Accepted the resignation of Jarvis Hines as 9th grade boys basketball coach; hired Tucker Craft as assistant high school baseball coach, $800; and hired Jacob Bane as 9th grade boys basketball coach, $719.79.

• Approved a stipend for Carmen Rowlands as spring musical show designer/tech designer, $2,750.

• Employed Adam Kohman as Performing Arts Center manager for 253-day contract, $50,000, effective April 29. Until then, he will be paid a per diem rate of $197.63 from Feb. 21-April 28.

• Approved several student trips including Model UN to the Ohio State University for the Model UN Conference on March 8-10; drama club to the State Thespian Conference in Sylvania March 22-24; and the BGHS baseball team to attend a tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from March 27-30.
