Perrysburg gymnastics won a team gymnastics championship on Friday at Bowling Green State University’s Anderson Arena behind the all-around champion, senior Ava Kincaid.

“The girls had an amazing meet,” Perrysburg coach Mykel Zwayer said. “Something that we say often is when you compete for your team, you will do well individually, too.

“This is exactly what happened on Friday, as we had the most individuals Perrysburg has ever had advance to the state meet,” added Zwayer, who is assisted by Danielle Tulodzieski.

Perrysburg scored 141.5 points to defeat second place Anthony Wayne (135.9), followed by Findlay (132.125), Sylvania Northview (130.85), Toledo St. Ursula (128.95), Maumee (127.825), Toledo Notre Dame (122.85), Napoleon (122.55), Springfield (120.15), and Patrick Henry (119.1) rounding out the top 10 teams.

Only the top two, Perrysburg and AW, will advance to the state meet as a team. The state meet is this Saturday and Sunday at Hilliard Bradley High School.

In the all-around, Kincaid scored 36.875 to nip second place Antwerp gymnast Hannah Molitor (36.675).

“Our senior, Ava Kincaid, had a fantastic meet,” Zwayer said. “She is a competitor who strives to do her best each and every day whether it’s a practice or a meet. She went 4-for-4 in her events and punched her ticket as an all-arounder next weekend at the state meet.

“However, the freshman, sophomore and junior classes are all equally as strong; each of which had at least one individual qualifier or alternate. Maybe the most amazing thing about these individual qualifiers is that we had three of the four events represented.

“Freshman Elyza Byrd, placed sixth on bars earning her the alternate position. Sophomores Janie Snyder and Abbi Lee qualified on floor and beam, respectively,” Zwayer continued.

“And junior Lauren Cline placed second on beam earning her an opportunity to continue her season for one more week as well. We are truly such a well-rounded team this year and everyone has an opportunity to contribute their strengths to the team.”

Kincaid also won the vault with a score of 9.425, beating out Molitor (9.325). In the beam Kincaid and Cline took first and second with scores of 9.15 and 9.0.

In the uneven bars, Molitor scored slightly higher than Kincaid, 9.25-9.0. In the floor exercises AW’s Brooke Miller (9.5) placed first and Kincaid (9.3) finished second. Other Perrysburg scores in the vault were Byrd (9.05), Kylee Ruiz (8.6), and Camryn Butler (8.2).

Other Perrysburg scores in the uneven bars were Byrd (8.55), Sydney Wolfinger (8.4) and Butler (8.35). In the beam, other Perrysburg scores were Lee (8.75) and Kenna Hire (8.45).
