TONTOGANY – Otsego High School students may have the opportunity to see concentration camps in Germany and visit a beach in Spain.

At the Feb. 22 school board meeting, Spanish teacher Natalie Lambert explained a proposed student trip to Germany and Spain in summer of 2026.

She and global studies teacher Carrie Lockhart would use Explorica tour operator on a trip with an itinerary they developed and that would be for only Otsego students.

The tour would begin in Berlin, Germany, before continuing to Nuremberg, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, Lambert said.

The cost of the 11-day trip is $5,129 and includes round-trip airfare, all transportation, hotels and two meals a day.

Lambert said they need 12 students to commit to the trip for it to happen.

“I applaud you guys for doing this,” said board member Jamie Harter.

Also at the meeting, the board:

• Heard a presentation by Lauri Dunham, Stephen and Jessica Weatherwax on the district’s special education programs.

• Was thanked by parent Natasha Bartley for its level of communication to the district.

She said special education has to be funded and Otsego needs to accept every student who lives in the district, unlike private schools that can deny enrollment of a special education child.

• Tabled approval of Weston Public Library’s appropriations. Board President Brad Anderson said he would rather see a budget than a list of appropriations.

• Scheduled a work session for March 25 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.
