Rossford, Eastwood bowlers advance to district

PORT CLINTON — The Rossford boys and the Eastwood girls bowling teams are advancing to the districts, both of them placing third at the Division II sectional at Star Lanes at the Harbor on Wednesday.

Rossford bowled a score of 3,353 to finish behind Sandusky Perkins (3,691) and Willard (3,400). Port Clinton will also advance, finishing fourth at 3,207.

The remaining six teams not advancing were Old Fort (3,158), Milan Edison (2,949), Eastwood (2,852), Margaretta (2,665), Vermilion (2,487), Huron (2,310) and Mansfield St. Peter’s (2,128).

Rossford as a team had a 822-725-889–2,426 series and Baker scores of 143, 178, 166, 138, 135 and 157 (917 total).

For the Bulldogs, junior Quitan Borden bowled individual games of 188-165-237–590, placing fourth out of 66 individual bowlers.

The only bowlers better than Borden were Margaretta senior Grant Brake (202-159-257–618), Willard senior Lucas Yeagley (180-179-247–606) and Perkins senior Xander Lewis (147-216-243–606).

Rossford junior Billy Graffius IV bowled 137-150-235–522, good enough for ninth place individually, and senior Trevor Wayne bowled 181-130-168–479 and junior Noah Heaton bowled 178-157-132–467.

Freshman Leonard DeStazio bowled a 138 for the Bulldogs and Rossford substitutions bowled 123 and 117.

As a team, Eastwood bowled 675-661-625–1,991 and had baker games of 188, 149, 191, 122, 113, and 128 (891 total).

For the Eagles, senior Jordan Keiper bowled 176-128-169–473, senior Joshua Beard bowled 158-175-127–460, sophomore Landon Porter bowled 146-127-142–415, freshman Jayden Zientek bowled 104-97-106–307 and sophomore Elias Bailey bowled 91-134-81–306.

The district tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at Interstate lanes in Rossford with top teams and individuals advancing to state.

Kieper bowls 224 to finish third

In the D-II girls sectional meet, Eastwood scored 3,166 to finish behind Perkins (3,296) and Vermilion (3,247). Willard finished fourth to advance with a 3,052 score.

The remaining team scores were Edison (2,990), Seneca East (2,801), Port Clinton (2,790), Huron (2,520), Rossford (2,390), Margaretta (2,256) and Old Fort (2,235).

Eastwood had a team series of 725-774-779–2,278 and baker games of 147-126-140-139-158-178–888.

Senior Cassi Kieper led the Eagles by bowling 163-167-224–554, which was good for third place individually behind Vermilion sophomore Isabelle Phillips (149-240-207–596) and Perkins sophomore Olivia Lizzi (166-155-255–576).

Eastwood sophomore Mae Scott bowled 166-144-151–461, sophomore Makenzie Grover scored 141-125-165–431, senior Abby Rothenbuhler bowled 125-172-128–425 and senior Kayla Gedert bowled 130-166-111–407.

Rossford had a team series of 529-628-584–1,741 and baker games of 143-104-101-89-96-116–649.

For the Bulldogs, senior Alex Spears bowled a 128-151-104–383 series and junior Madeline Logan bowled a 111-135-89–335 series.

Rossford sophomore Delia Zawodni bowled a 133 and 155, sophomore Lily Castro bowled 96 and 97 games, senior Emilie Herman bowled a 129 game, sophomore Dana Chen bowled a 126 game, and sophomore Camille Harmon bowled a 107 game. Substitutes had games of 61 and 119.

The district tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Interstate lanes in Rossford with top teams and individuals advancing to state.
