A Bowling Green man has been arrested for menacing after he allegedly had a handgun during an argument.

On Saturday at 10:05 p.m., Bowling Green police were called to the 300 block of Campbell Hill Road for a report of a possible fight involving a gun.

Upon arrival, officers knocked on an apartment door and when a male answered, ordered everyone out. Approximately 10 people exited, and all were patted down for weapons. No gun was found, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Several of the inhabitants told police they were outside getting some fresh air when the neighbor, identified as Jared Smith, yelled at them. They yelled back and then went back into their apartment.

One of the men told police he went back outside, heard the sound of someone cocking a gun, yelled “he has a gun” then ran back inside the apartment.

Witnesses in a neighboring apartment said when they heard someone yell “help,” they opened the front door and heard two men yelling. One witness told police he heard a clicking noise like a gun being loaded, heard “he’s got a gun” and called 911, according to the report.

When questioned, Smith said that there were people outside yelling like they did every weekend. He said he yelled at them out a window to be quiet. He said they called him names in return. He stepped outside to confront the group, at which time he heard “gun” being yelled so he ran back inside, according to the report.

One of the witnesses said he was positive he saw a gun in Smith’s hand.

Smith told police there was no gun involved in the situation.

Smtih, 21, was transported to jail and charged with aggravated menacing.
