PERRYSBURG — Building consensus about climate change was Kathleen Biggins primary motive in starting C-Change Conversations.

“At C-Change Conversations, we talk about climate change in a way that helps people understand the urgency of the issue without inflaming partisan passions,” Biggins said. “We do that by educating people about the science and risks of climate change and by framing it not as a political issue, but as a human one.”

Biggins will be the featured speaker at Country Garden Club of Perrysburg’s upcoming public lecture. The lecture will be held April 24, 7 p.m. at the Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts, 7270 Biniker Road.

Country Garden Club President Judy Lang explains that CGC is hosting this event because an important part of its mission—as well as that of Garden Club of America—is to provide education on topics related to conservation, climate change, and protection of our natural environment.

“Online tickets for this lecture are being affordably priced at $10 so that ticket cost is not a barrier to attendance,” says Ann Worden, co-chair of the lecture. Tickets at the door will be $15. Online tickets can be purchased at www.cgcperrysburg.com.

According to her website, Biggins co-founded C-Change Conversations to help foster understanding about the risks of climate change to our economy; health and security; and geopolitical stability.

Prior to starting C-Change, she had a career in advertising and journalism. In 2014, she recognized that climate change was a significant risk, but that few people were talking about it because it was seen as such a polarizing and far-off topic. That year she pulled a team together to create C-Change Conversations with the goal of depoliticizing the issue and helping others understand how it might impact them personally.

Biggins wrote the C-Change Conversations Primer—a non-partisan, science-based presentation—that has been lauded by both conservative politicians and chief scientists of internationally known climate organizations. The Primer has been presented to a wide range of businesses and associations, reaching over 17,000 people in 32 states and internationally and has received accolades from leaders in government, finance, health, and education as well as from the Garden Club of America.
