Perrysburg recognizes firefighters’ union

PERRYSBURG — Following an executive session, city council recognized the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3331 as the exclusive representative for bargaining concerning wages, hours or terms and conditions of employment for all full-time, non-probationary employees in the classifications of firefighter/paramedic, lieutenant, and captain, but excluding the fire chief, deputy fire chief and all other employees of the City of Perrysburg.

In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the council authorized the mayor and director of finance to enter into a purchase agreement with Honda East for the purchase of a 2024 Can Am Defender Pro Limited vehicle in an amount not to exceed $30,013.00.

A fire department representative said this new purchase was in the 2024 fire department budget. He said they had researched the UTV market and the utility vehicle met their needs best. They received two quotes, and both quotes are under the budgeted amount, with the Honda East offering the lowest and best bid.

They requested an emergency approval, bypassing the usual three readings, since they would like to have this vehicle in service prior to the April 8 solar eclipse.

Council approved a new vehicle for the Department of Public Utilities. This purchase replaces a vehicle that is at the end of its life due to an accident. The price for the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude was $46,438.00. The city received an insurance payout of $26,720 for the previous vehicle.

The city approved a $1,263,896.10 bid from Kyle Sherman Excavating of Perrysburg to replace the waterline and sanitary sewer in the east-west alley between Indiana Avenue and 5th Street (from Cherry Street and Louisiana Avenue) and the east-west alley between 5th Street and 6th Street (from Cherry Street to Hickory Street).

Council then went into executive session again to discuss a possible land purchase by the city. No action was taken when they returned to regular session.
