Weston man indicted for alleged rape

A Weston man in prison for raping a disabled woman has been indicted for allegedly committing a similar offense.

A Wood County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Daniel Stump, 43, for three counts of rape, all first-degree felonies.

From Oct. 1-31, 2022; Nov. 1-20, 2022; and Dec. 1, 2022-Jan. 14, 2023, he allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with the same woman whose ability to resist or consent was substantially impaired because of a mental or physical condition or because of advanced age.

Stump is incarcerated in the North Central Correctional Institute in Marion after being sentenced in April to eight years. He had accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to one count of rape. Three additional charges were dismissed.

On Sept. 12, 2022, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a sexual assault that had occurred in Weston.

The victim, who was 26 years old at the time, lived in a group home and had the mental capacity of a 6 to 9-year-old.

Another friend gave Stump her number and he called the group home and asked the victim if she wanted to go for a ride. He drove them back to his home in Weston and had sex with her against her will.

Later that day, Stump returned the victim to the group home.

She told them what happened, was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault examination, and the DNA obtained was from the defendant.

Stump’s prison sentence could stretch to 12 years as the offense falls within Reagan Tokes Act regulations.

He must register as a Tier III sex offender, after serving the eight years, which will require him to register every 90 days for life.
