Woman cited for OVI with child in the vehicle

A Cuyahoga County woman was cited this morning for OVI after she drove into a large puddle and got stuck.

Bowling Green police were called to the 900 block of South Main Street at 3:32 a.m. for a vehicle that was stuck in a large pudding in the grassy area behind a business.

Officers saw an SUV with its front tires halfway submerged in a large ice water puddle with two occupants inside, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Officers weren’t able to get close due to the water and ice.

The driver, Carmen Woodward, 56, Chagrin Falls, said her passenger was her friend’s child and that someone was on the way to get them out.

Woodward said she was driving on Kenwood Avenue behind Circle K and decided to “come back here” and it wasn’t a good decision, according to the report.

Woodward had slow and slurred speech and upon approach via ice that was still intact, the officer could smell the odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle.

She told officers she was the designated driver but had had two glasses of wine, the last being around midnight.

The officer told her to not move the vehicle, but upon turning around, Woodward put the SUV in reverse and tried to get it unstuck.

At that time, she was asked out of the vehicle in order to take field sobriety tests, of which she failed.

She was taken to the police department where two breath samples were taken. The results were 0.147 BAC and 0.151 BAC.

According to the report, Woodward was cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, prohibited alcohol content, failure to control and endangering children.

Bowling Green Municipal Court has listed her citations as OVI, DUI and reasonable control.

Her passenger was taken home, and Woodward was released to a sober driver.
