Julian Eugene (Gene) George

Julian Eugene (Gene) George, age 89 passed away January 7, 2024 at Birchaven surrounded by family and loved ones.

Gene was born June 27, 1934 to the late Adolf and Virgie (Miller) George in Belmore, Ohio. Gene graduated in 1952 from the Jackson Township School in Hoytville. Shortly after graduation he married Margaret Conkey on August 17, 1952. They were married for 64 years, until Margaret passed in 2017.

Gene, a lifelong, accomplished farmer started farming at a young age.

He shared his wisdom with his family and community. When talking about farming he would say “farming is just an honest day of work/” These traditional values and work ethic was instilled in his family.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed his home in Florida and visiting friends. Gene was also an accomplished woodworker, making wooden trains, doll beds, puzzles and many other wooden decorations. He was devoted to his wife, his children and caring for his land. He loved to talk, sharing stories of the past and present.

Gene was so very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

Gene is survived by his children: Milo (Arlene), Brendyn (Karen), Cheryl (Eric) Meyer, Coy (Judy) and Gaylynn Hunt; and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene also proceeded in death by his daughter, Jolene.
