Northwood man sentenced for vandalizing an ATM

A Northwood man who caused an ATM in Rossford to malfunction due to vandalism has been sentenced.

Jim Alan Fields, 28, was transported from the Corrections Center of NW Ohio Tuesday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

He had been indicted in July for vandalism, a fifth-degree felony, and resisting arrest and obstructing official business, both second-degree misdemeanors.

Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lara Rump recommended a six-month prison sentence to run concurrently to what he is serving in CCNO for a Lucas County conviction.

The state dismissed the obstructing official business charge, she said.

On June 24, Rossford police responded to the Rossford Recreation Center for two subjects who appeared to be breaking into the building. A man and woman, matching the description, were spotted in a nearby parking lot.

Fields, who had a warrant for his arrest, resisted when officers tried to take him into custody, Rump said.

He had in his possession a can of black spray paint, which he used on the keyboard, card slot and display screen at a Fifth Third Bank ATM, causing it to not function for 18 hours, she said.

Defense attorney Christopher Lawrence said his client was serving a six-month sentence from the Lucas County conviction and he had four months left.

Reger imposed a sentence of six months with credit given for time served since Nov. 13, to run concurrent to the Lucas County charge.
