Boday resigns from Walbridge council

WALBRIDGE — A council member has said he could no longer work with village leaders and has resigned

Larry Boday, who had served on village council since 2013, resigned at the Dec. 20 meeting.

He said he could no longer work with Mayor Ed Kolanko and the last straw was when the police chief stated at a council meeting that he was a troublemaker for trying to get the police department and village administration to enforce the laws and ordinances.

“So with that, I am resigning from council and my last act will be to make a motion to adjourn this meeting,” Boday said.

Attempts to reach Boday have been unsuccessful.

The reasons Boday gave for leaving are his own, Kolanko said. “I don’t share those thoughts.”

The mayor said Boday had served on the safety committee for two years and hadn’t submitted any reports.

“He made a choice not to be part of village council,” Kolanko said.

Boday also said in a public meeting a couple months ago that he didn’t trust the village police department, Kolanko said.

“He made the right decision to step down,” Kolanko said.

“Blaming me is unfair … but I strongly feel this is the best direction of the village,” he said.

The council has 30 days to appoint someone to fill the seat. If it fails to do so, Kolanko may fill the vacancy by appointment.

He said he wasn’t concerned about finding someone to fill Boday’s seat.

The person will serve the remaining two years of Boday’s term.
