Panthers pull away to down Royals, 43-34

MAUMEE — Despite 16 points from Kate Keiffer, Elmwood girls basketball lost their season opener to Maumee, 43-34.

The two teams were tied at 32-32 entering the fourth quarter, but the Panthers closed on an 11-2 run. The Royals led 20-16 at halftime.

Keiffer had a three-point goal and made seven free throws, but it was not enough for the Royals. Aubrey Johnson, who also had a triple, scored seven points, Madi Lee scored six points, Selina Deal and Molly Barringer scored two points apiece, and Izzy Courtney added one point for the Royals.

Lucy Porter led Maumee with 22 points, including four triples, Taylor Smith scored seven, Skyler Janes scored six, Megyn Calopietro scored five, and Autumn Gugger had two points.
