Bowling Green State University 6-foot sophomore opposite hitter Lauryn Hovey was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Hovey is the first athlete this year, male or female, to be named in back-to-back weeks and just the third overall to be named twice.

Hovey had another tremendous week, helping BGSU go 3-0 on the week and leading the sixth-seeded Falcons into the championship match of the MAC Tournament.

Hovey and the Falcons swept Miami (OH) to end the regular season, then – after Hovey was named to the All-MAC First Team – BGSU opened league tourney play with a five-set victory over third-seeded Ball State in the quarterfinal round.

Then, in the semifinals, the Falcons swept second-seeded Buffalo to earn a berth in the championship match for the fifth consecutive season, becoming the first No. 6 seed to advance to the final since 2017.

In 11 sets, Hovey landed 64 kills, for an incredible average of 5.82 per set. She added five aces, 17 digs and six blocks to her stat line, including a double-double in the MAC Quarterfinals. She hit .480 in the win over the RedHawks, with 16 kills in the three-set sweep.

In the Ball State contest, Hovey had a whopping 28 kills and hit .310, adding 11 digs. Then, against Buffalo, Hovey hit .571, the highest hitting percentage of her Falcon career, with 20 kills on only 28 attempts.
