Eight Jackets selected to All-NLL first team

Perrysburg got eight players voted to the All-Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division first team, including four on offense and four on defense. even though the Yellow Jackets lost three league games to finish in fourth place.

Perrysburg’s first team selections on offense include senior running back Nick Oros, senior wide receiver Gavin Fenneken, senior offensive guard Andrew Boden, and senior place kicker Taylor Thomas.

Oros ran for 858 yards on 184 carries and scored 15 touchdowns and he also caught five passes for 12 yards and scored a team-high 94 points. Fenneken had 50 catches for 753 yards and 15 touchdowns, scoring 90 points.

Perrysburg’s first team defensive choices are senior defensive end Matt Hubbard, junior interior lineman Eric Bush, junior inside linebacker Joe Seney, and senior cornerback Samuel Lawanson III,

Perrysburg’s second team choices on offense are junior wide receiver Iain Hall, junior tight end Zach Schroeder, and junior center Oliver Zieman.

Second team selections are senior outside linebacker Abram Hire and junior safety Grey Swanson.

Findlay junior quarterback Ryan Montgomery is the NLL Offensive Player of the Year and Toledo Whitmer junior outside linebacker Napoleon Jimison is the Defensive POY.

Co-Coaches of the Year are Anthony Wayne’s Andy Brungaard and Findlay’s Stefan Adams.

AW (10-3 overall, 4-1 NLL), Findlay (8-3, 4-1), and Whitmer (7-4, 4-1) shared first place, followed by Perrysburg (8-4, 2-3), Sylvania Northview (2-8, 1-4), and Springfield (2-8, 0-5).

However, Perrysburg avenged their regular season 25-15 loss to Whitmer, defeating the Panthers, 20-14, in the first round of the Division I playoffs.

Four Bobcats honored

In the NLL Cardinal Division, Bowling Green senior running back Peyton Harris and senior offensive guard Ryan Gerwin are second team honorees.

On defense, BG junior interior lineman Jackson Shafer and junior inside linebacker Ja’ceous Shannon are second team selections.

Clay junior quarterback Mason Heintschel is the Cardinal Division Offensive POY and Napoleon junior safety Trey Rubinstein is the Defensive POY. Steve Hardy of Sylvania Southview is the Coach of the Year.

Southview won the league championship, finishing 8-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the league, followed by Napoleon (6-6, 3-1), Fremont Ross (4-7, 2-2), Clay (4-7, 1-3) and BG (5-6, 0-4).

The Bobcats started the season 4-1, including two non-league wins over NLL Buckeye Division opponents, before failing to win a Cardinal Division game.
