Mary Irene (Clark) O’Neil

Mary Irene (Clark) O’Neil, 92, of Dunbridge, Ohio passed away November 11, 2023. She was born April 15, 1931 in Delphos, Ohio to the late Daniel and Lillian (Holdgrave) Clark. She married James D. O’Neil on September 11, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 2012.

Mary was a graduate of St. john’s High School in Delphos, Ohio. She went on to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from St. Rita’s School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio. She was a member of St. John XXIII Church in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Mary was a true servant of God and fearless leader of her convictions. Her faith guided her every move and her family and community were all that truly mattered. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a smile that rivaled the sun. Her quiet presence masked her incredible strength. Living through multiple tragedies and hardships of life with the Holy Spirit always at her side, she had a grateful heart and was able to find beauty even in times of despair. Everyone who was lucky enough to encounter her, felt her love and total acceptance. There was never judgment in her eyes or in her heart. When she knew you were in pain, she took that on with her quiet strength and gracious heart. There was always a warm, loving hug waiting for you when you walked in her door.

She is survived by eight of her nine children: Dennis (Sonny) O’Neil, James (Addie – deceased) O’Neil, Julia (Chris) Haley, Ellen (Larry) Hatcher, Peggy (Rick) Swain, Robert (Tami) O’Neil, Sarah Dias, Joseph (Katie) O’Neil. There is not enough space to list all of her grandchildren, their spouses and their children – they all captured her heart: 17 grandkids, 24 great grandkids (with one on the way), and one great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James D. O’Neil, eldest daughter Mary Miller, daughter-in-law Addie O’Neil, her parents and all of her eight brothers and sisters.
