A Texas man has been arrested for theft after he was found in possession of items he allegedly took from multiple vehicles.

On Sunday around 1:30 a.m., Bowling Green Police Division dispatch advised of a report of a male wearing a gray vest trying to enter vehicles in the 100 block of East Court Street.

The caller stated they last saw the man walking northbound on North Main Street near East Court.

An officer observed an unoccupied Jeep parked in the 300 block of North Main with its dome light on. After turning onto Ridge Street, the officer located a male matching the description walking eastbound away from the Jeep, according to the police report.

The man, identified as Jacolby Hamilton, was carrying a black coat, red shirt, red shorts, and a small black bag. He claimed all the items were his and with no witnesses, he was not detained.

After that encounter, a second officer observed a man who appeared upset looking through a vehicle. The vehicle’s owner told police a small Nike bag that contained her personal belongings was missing.

Officers tried to locate Hamilton and found him walking southbound in the 300 block of North Prospect Street. He was seen trying to enter a Dodge truck and then enter a black Honda and sit in the front passenger seat, according to the report.

One vehicle owner was located who claimed ownership of that black coat, red shirt, and red shorts that Hamilton had his possession. The victim stated the items were in his vehicle, a beige Chevrolet.

Other vehicles with the center console left open were located.

Hamilton, 30, of Huffman, Texas, was arrested and charged with two counts of theft and four counts of criminal mischief. He was taken to jail.
