Eastwood lands 9 on All-NBC first team

Eastwood football, the Northern Buckeye Conference runners-up, landed nine players on the All-NBC first team, including four on offense, four on defense, and one specialist.

On offense are senior running back Caiden Maize, junior receiver Andre Lewis, senior left tackle Ian Sibbersen, and senior tight end and H-back Kaiden Sanchez. Senior kicker Noah Haar is also first team.

Maize ran for 1,493 yards on 177 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per carry, and scoring 19 touchdowns on the ground. He averaged 124.4 yards per game and had seven 100-plus yardage games. His longest run of the season was 69 yards.

Maize also caught 17 passes for 144 yards. Including kick returns, Maize had 1,647 all-purpose yards, averaging 137.3 per game.

Andre Lewis caught 52 passes for 874 yards, averaging 16.8 yards per catch and 72.8 per game, and he caught nine TD passes. Including kick returns, he had 1,110 all-purpose yards, averaging 91.7 per game.

Sanchez caught 24 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 13.5 yards per catch. On kickoffs, Haar had 10 touchbacks, he was 53-for-56 on extra point kicks, and he kicked a 29-yard field goal, scoring 56 points.

Eastwood junior quarterback Kadyn Donnell was honorable mention, throwing for 1,972 yards and rushing for 1,000, but Eastwood coach Sam Cotterman noted that Donnell would have had more rushing yards if it were not for Maize’s effort. Donnell broke the school passing record previously set by Kevin Leady in 2003.

The Eagles’ first team selections on defense are senior middle linebacker Andrew Badenhop, senior weak side linebacker Austin Maize, junior cornerback Colton Woodward, and junior defensive end Paul Lautezenheiser.

Badenhop had 92 tackles, one sack, and an interception, Austin Maize had 65 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions, Woodward had 24 tackles and one interception, and Lautzenheiser had 44 tackles and a team-high seven sacks.

Otsego senior wide receiver Jack Simpson is also a first team selection after gathering 60 catches for 900 yards and 13 touchdowns. Simpson became Otsego’s all-time leading receptions yards holder in school history with 124 career catches, 2,003 career yards, and 26 career touchdowns.

Oak Harbor playmaker Jaqui Hayward, who plays running back, wide receiver, and quarterback, is the NBC Back of the Year and Oak Harbor defensive end Jacob Ridener is the Lineman of the Year.

Oak Harbor (12-1 overall, 7-0 NBC) won the league championship in its first year competing in the NBC, followed by Eastwood (9-3, 6-1), Genoa (7-4, 5-2), Otsego (4-7, 4-3), Maumee (5-5, 3-4), Fostoria (3-7, 2-5), Lake (2-8, 1-6), and Rossford (1-9, 0-7).

Wood County second team offensive selections are Otsego senior tailback Devin Farley, Lake junior receiver Jay Blazevich, Eastwood junior right guard Ethan Recker, and Eastwood junior center Connor Norton,

Wood County second team defensive choices include Otsego junior outside linebackers Carter Lampe and Jake Limes, Eastwood interior lineman Colin Clark, Eastwood junior cornerback Dayquan Oliver, Otsego senior cornerback Owen Atkinson, and Otsego senior strong safety Devin Farley, and Otsego senior punter Cohen Feehan.

Honorable mention selections on offense include Lake senior running back David Parsons, Rossford senior wide receiver Kaden Kirkman, Eastwood junior receiver Dayquan Oliver, Lake senior right guard Jason Ahumada, Otsego senior left guard Jaxon Jeremy, Otsego junior left tackle Jack Rowland, Rossford junior center Sam Wilburn, Donnell, and Lake sophomore quarterback Carter Behlmer,

HM choices on defense are Eastwood junior strong side linebacker Kevin Lewis, Lake junior middle linebacker Brett Bomyea, Rossford sophomore linebacker Jose Selvera, Otsego junior tackle Bodde Simon, Eastwood senior tackles Ian Sibbersen and Branden Bowdie, and Rossford defensive back Ronnie Hawkins.
