Falcons clinch spot in MAC tournament

The Bowling Green State University volleyball team clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 win over Buffalo Saturday at the Stroh Center on Senior Night.

The Falcons started strong with a .538 hitting percentage in the first set. The momentum carried into a tight second set, winning 25-23, before securing the match in the third set for the sweep.

With the win, the Falcons have now won nine of their last 10 and will continue their campaign into the postseason at the MAC Tournament after Wednesday night’s (6 p.m.) regular season finale hosting Miami at the Stroh Center. The MAC tournament seed and opponent for BGSU will be determined with the last matches of the season Wednesday.

On the stat sheet, Lauryn Hovey landed 20 kills for her second 20-kill match in as many nights and her third of the season. Hovey had a .302 hitting percentage.

Kat Mandly (Perrysburg) followed with 17 kills of her own plus a .293 hitting percentage. Jaden Walz set the attack with 40 kills and just missed a double-double, finishing with nine digs. Continuing in the digs column, Alex Laboy topped the stat sheet with 16 while logging two assists and an ace.

With the win, the Falcons are now 41-10 against Buffalo all-time, including being 23-4 when hosting the Bulls. BGSU has also won 10 straight in the series, including 11 of the last 12.

The Falcons held Buffalo to a .176 hitting percentage, moving their record to 14-2 this season when holding their opponent under .200 on the attack.

Going back to the 2019 season, the Falcons are now 22-5 in the month of November.
