Perrysburg man charged with attempted murder committed to psychiatric hospital

A Perrysburg man charged with attempted murder has been involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital.

At a one-day trial in October, Cody Jordan Wahl, 29, was found not guilty by reason of insanity of the offenses of attempted murder, two counts felonious assault and two counts of domestic violence.

A hearing to determine the least restrictive environment available for Wahl’s treatment was held Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

Wahl allegedly used a knife to attempt to kill a juvenile on July 15. He caused or attempted to cause serious physical harm to the juvenile and a female.

Both were family members.

Reger said inpatient treatment was appropriate and the least restrictive and committed Wahl involuntarily to the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital in Toledo.

Prior to the conviction, he could not order forced medication, Reger said.

Now, if Wahl refuses medication, the court can order it be administered, he said.

Wood County Prosecutor Lara Rump asked, on behalf of the victims, for a no contact order.

Reger approved the request.

A review hearing was scheduled for May 7. After that, the case will be reviewed every two years.

Reger said Wahl is subject to court jurisdiction for 11 years, which was the maximum prison sentence that could have been set.
