Autistic boy who walked away from home is found

PERRYSBURG – A 12-year-old autistic boy walked away from home Tuesday morning but was found a short time later.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., Police Township Police responded to the 12000 block of Gloria Street where it was reported an autistic boy had walked away from home sometime in the past few hours.

While enroute, the township police officer was informed that Perrysburg Police Department was with a young non-verbal subject wearing a Scooby Doo outfit at Home 2 Suites in Levis Commons, according to the township police incident report.

The distance is about 0.8 miles.

The officer arrived at the home and asked whether the boy would have a Scooby Doo outfit and was told yes.

The family followed the officer to the hotel where they took custody of the boy without issue, according to the report.
