Dale L. Wright, 81, of Oakwood, died 6:52 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2023 at Defiance Inpatient Hospice.
He was born November 6, 1941 in Hoytville to the late Glenn “Bus” and Ruth (Weaver) Wright. On June 9, 1962 he married Carol Lynn Funk. She survives in Oakwood.
Other survivors include three children: Sherri Wright-Closson, John Wright and Darren Blockberger; a brother, Daniel (Nancy) Wright of Georgia; a sister, Geraldine Strobel of Napoleon; seven grandchildren: Zachary Brown, Alexis Ann Wright, Danielle Blair, Jeff Jr. Closson, Mica Closson, Kirsten Blockberger and Evan Blockberger; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also proceeded in death by a son, Rick Wright.
Dale was a truck driver and drove over 40 years without a chargeable accident. He worked at Funk Motor Transportation, Wayne Glore Transportation of Defiance and owned and operated Wright Trucking of Oakwood, when he retired in early 2000 due to heart issues. He grew up on the family farm and loved driving tractors, the outdoors, hunting and riding horses. Dale was ornery and witty, he lit up every room. He was his daughter Sherri’s hero and will be missed greatly by his family.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Bethel Christian Church in Arthur, 14988 County Rd. 209, Defiance, OH 43512 with Pastor Christopher Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, 610 Walnut St. Oakwood, OH 45873 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
