Georgia man indicted for inducing panic

A Georgia man has been indicted for inducing panic after he allegedly smashed a display case, causing employees to evacuate the business.

A Wood County grand jury on Oct. 4 indicted James Christian Duncan, 21, of Atlanta, for vandalism and inducing panic, both fourth-degree felonies.

On Aug. 22, Duncan entered Panera Bread on Fremont Pike and allegedly began throwing items, kicked and smashed the glass display of the bakery and threw various coffee pots about the business. According to court documents, the staff evacuated the store. The estimated loss of business and damage to the property is $15,300.

Duncan is in jail.

Also indicted were:

• Blayne Curtis Kreais II, 35, Odessa, Texas, for grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; and theft, a fifth-degree felony. On July 18, he allegedly took a vehicle from a female without consent and from June 23-July 8, he allegedly deprived a man of $3,111 in checks without consent.

• Wendy Gail Johnson, 41, Toledo, for theft, a fifth-degree felony; and burglary, a third-degree felony. On Sept 14, she allegedly removed $1,347 in merchandise from the Perrysburg Kohl’s while under a “no trespassing agreement” with the store dating to May 2016.

• Mario Jose Flores, 33, Toledo, for theft from a person in a protected class, a fifth-degree felony. On July 31, he allegedly deprived a female of property or services valued at $335 without consent and the alleged victim was an elderly person.

• Jaiden Tyler, 22, Toledo, for failure to comply with the signal or order of a police officer, a third-degree felony; receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; and two counts operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them (OVI), both first-degree misdemeanors. On Sept. 9 1:46 a.m., Bowling Green police observed a motorcycle driving westbound on East Wooster Street then turning northbound onto North Main Street, which was closed for the festival. The motorcyclist stopped at East Court Street and was approached by a Bowling Green police officer. After being asked what he was doing, the operator attempted to accelerate away. While officers were conducting field sobriety tests, dispatch advised the BMW motorcycle had been stolen in Michigan, according to the report. A breath test showed a BAC of 0.136.

• Joshua Charles Smith, 27, Grand Rapids, for two counts operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them (OVI), both fourth-degree felonies; and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. On Aug. 18, he was stopped for a marked lane violation in North Baltimore. He refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was taken to the Bowling Green Police Department where a breath test showed a BAC of 0.16. Officers found a loaded .38 Special handgun in the center console of his vehicle. He had previously been convicted of three OVI violations, in 2019 in Fulton County, in 2017 and 2018 in Williams County.

• Theodore Alfonso Wright Jr., 50, Toledo, for two counts of theft, both fifth-degree felonies; and obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor. On Sept. 4 in Rossford, he and an unidentified man allegedly deprived Home Depot of more than $2,800 in merchandise (40 cases luxury vinyl plank flooring). He returned to the store on Sept. 6 and was stopped after loading 20 cases of the same flooring, valued at $1,400, into a cart and proceeding all points of sale. After being stopped in the vestibule, he abandoned the property and left the store and was detained by police. Wright told officers he had ingested crack cocaine and was transported by EMS to Mercy of Perrysburg as a precaution. After six hours of observation, medical staff confirmed he had not ingested the drug as claimed. He was taken to jail.

• Ryan Lester, 25, of Northwood and currently in jail, for two counts of domestic violence, both third-degree felonies. On June 25, he allegedly struck a male family member multiple times in the head with a closed fist. On Aug. 21, he allegedly slapped a female family member in the face during an argument. He had formerly been convicted of domestic violence in 2018 in Lucas County.

• Cadyn Scott Sheegog, 18, Massillon, for felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Shortly after 2 a.m. on Sept. 3, reports indicate he was engaged in a physical fight in the 100 block of East Court Street. The alleged victim attempted to stop the fight and allegedly was punched several times, knocked unconscious then dragged into the middle of the roadway where Sheegog allegedly began stomping on his head with the heal of his foot. Sheegog’s actions were confirmed by watching the city’s downtown cameras. The victim, who was unconscious when police arrived, was transported to the hospital.

• DeCarlos Amond Benton, 42, of Toledo and currently in jail, for possession of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine and possessing criminal tools, all fifth-degree felonies; and illegal manufacturing of drugs, a second-degree felony. On Sept. 8 in the 27000 block of Oregon Road, Perrysburg, a search warrant was conducted on his Chevy Impala. Inside, officers found less than 5 grams of crack cocaine, two digital scales, sandwich bags, and a glass bowl with razor blade marks and white residue (glass bowls are commonly used to manufacture crack cocaine).

• Kamron Charles Ridener, 19, homeless, for felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and tampering with evidence, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and having weapons while under disability, all third-degree felonies. On Sept. 29, Ridener, who is a fugitive from justice, allegedly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to another by means of a firearm and allegedly discharged the gun upon a public road or highway. He allegedly destroyed or concealed records or items in order to impair their value as evidence. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

• Ridener’s co-defendant, Stacia J. Kammer, 18, Algonac, Michigan, was indicted for obstructing justice, a third-degree felony. On Sept. 29, she allegedly hindered the apprehension of Ridener by providing money, transportation, a weapon or a disguise. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
