Jackets stomp Wildcats, 48-0, to stay unbeaten

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg football remained unbeaten at 6-0 after shutting out visiting Sylvania Northview (1-5), 48-0, in both teams’ Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division opener at Steinecker Stadium Friday.

The Yellow Jackets scored four first quarter touchdowns and continued to roll, leading 41-0 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets had 268 total yards and held the Wildcats to just 125. Perrysburg had 17 first downs to Northview’s 10 and the Perrysburg defense had three interceptions.

Perrysburg quarterback Josh Takats opened up the scoring by throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Dominick Woods, Nick Oros followed with a six-yard TD run, Takats scored on a one-yard TD run, and Oros closed the first quarter scoring with a 32-yard TD run.

In the second quarter, Takats threw a 25-yard TD pass to Gavin Fenneken and Oros scored on a 20-yard run. In the third, Takats tossed a 14-yard TD strike to Fenneken. Kicker Taylor Thomas added six conversion kicks for the Jackets.

Takats completed 9-of-15 passes for 119 yards and he threw one interception. Fenneken caught four passes for 58 yards, Iain Hall had four catches for 47 yards, and Woods had a catch for 14 yards.

Oros ran the ball 11 times for 125 yards, Takats had five carries for 10 yards, and Nico Walkosky, Beckett Walters, and Fenneken combined to run six times for a total of 19 yards.

For Northview, Micah Cechner had 10 carries for 22 yards, Connor Pieja had three carries for 14 yards, and Quinton Wilson had 14 carries for 11 yards.

Northview quarterback Boston Vargas completed 10-of-20 passes for 67 yards and Jacob Weimer completed 3-of-3 passes for 26 yards.

Jackson Clausius had four catches for 46 yards, Christian Berling had four catches for 34 yards, Andrew Fineske had a catch for five yards, Wilson had three catches for four yards, and Daniel Protsman had a catch for four yards.

Getting interceptions for the Yellow Jackets were Abram Hires, Brayden Rose and Grey Swanson. Matt Hubbard had a sack, and Clausius had an interception for the Wildcats.
