MINNEAPOLIS — Robert Edward Steller, 87, died April 30 in Minneapolis after a sudden illness, surrounded by family, following the death of his wife of 64 years, Judith Bavis Steller, in December 2022.

Survived by brother David (Janis) of San Diego; brother-in-law James Bavis (Mary Catherine) of Naples, Fla.; sons Chris (Margaret Lund) of Minneapolis and Tim (Patty Machelor) of Tucson; grandchildren Stefan (Emily), Gabriel, Livia, Benjamin and Claudia; and nieces and nephews Donna, Diana, Deborah, James Jr., Thomas and Barbara.

Bob was born March 2, 1936 in Bowling Green and raised there, along with Dave, by parents Marion Hall Steller and Warren Edward Steller.

He attended grade school to high school in Bowling Green, then got his BA at Oberlin College and MA at BGSU. Having first met in science class at Bowling Green Junior High, Bob and Judy were married in Bowling Green in 1959. The next year they moved for further graduate studies to Minneapolis, where they stayed — but over the years made frequent drives back to Bowling Green to visit Warren and Marion, and Judy’s parents Harry and Berenice Bavis, as well as old friends.

Bob taught English for many years at Lakewood Community College in White Bear Lake, Minnesota (now Century College). Bob and Judy also had a winter home in Tucson where Tim’s family lives.
