Otsego’s David Silva becoming a Falcon

The Bowling Green State University baseball program will welcome four transfers to the team for the 2024 campaign, including Otsego graduate David Silva, an infielder who will be a senior at BGSU this year.

Over the summer, the Falcons added Silva from Ohio Dominican, senior infielder Landon Roque from Lamar, junior outfielder Caden Parker from Clark College and right-handed pitcher Calvin Mitchell from Wright State.

“We are excited to add David, Landon, Caden and Calvin to the Falcon Family,” said coach Kyle Hallock. “Each one of these talented players will provide depth to our program at their respective positions. They will be able to impact our returning players and freshmen class based on their respective experiences at previous institutions.”

Silva will utilize his COVID year with the Falcons after spending the last four seasons with Ohio Dominican. A native of Tontogany, Silva appeared in 149 games with 144 over his four seasons at ODU.

During his time with the Panthers, Silva maintained a batting average of .303 over 505 at-bats, tallying 32 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs and 83 RBI. Silva also finished the 2023 campaign tied for the team-lead in walks drawn with 31.

Roque began his collegiate career at the JUCO level, playing for Angelina JC in Lufkin, Texas for two seasons. With the Roadrunners, Roque appeared in 53 games during the 2022 season, logging 50 hits.

He added nine doubles, seven home runs, 43 runs scored and 40 RBI during the 2022 campaign. Last season, Roque played for Lamar University where he totaled three hits, including a double, three runs scored and an RBI over 12 games, including two starts.

Parker has spent the last two seasons at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash. In two seasons with the Penguins, Parker appeared in 90 games with 88 starts. He recorded a .298 batting average across his two seasons, totaling 319 at-bats.

He added 95 hits, 76 runs, 59 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples and three home runs during his Clark College career. Parker also swiped 34 bags while maintaining a .418 on-base percentage and drew 53 walks with the Penguins.

Mitchell will arrive in Bowling Green with three years of eligibility after pitching for Wright State a season ago. Mitchell made four appearances for the Raiders in 2023, including outings against Mid-American Conference opponents Miami and Toledo.

Mitchell’s best outing of the season came against the Rockets, pitching a scoreless inning of relief. During his lone season with Wright State, Mitchell tallied six strikeouts across five innings of work.
