BG man arrested for OVI after striking a tree

A Bowling Green man has been arrested for OVI after crashing his vehicle into a tree.

On Wednesday at 2:09 a.m., Bowling Green police were called to the 700 block of East Napoleon Road for an auto accident.

A vehicle made a wide left turn and missed the paved entrance to the parking lot, proceeded over a cement curb and then entered the grassy area and struck a large tree, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The operator of the 2018 Lexus NX was identified as Connor Gdovin, 20.

While speaking with Gdovin, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and noticed Gdovin’s eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was slurred.

Gdovin reportedly told the officer, “for some reason I thought I could drive,” according to the report.

He told the officer he had consumed alcohol at his home and at a downtown bar.

A passenger in the backseat told officers she bit her tongue when the vehicle hit the tree but declined medical treatment, according to the report.

On the way to the police station, Gdovin reportedly made suicidal comments and struck his head into the metal partition in the backseat of the patrol car.

BG EMS was called for Gdovin, who had a considerable sized laceration on his forehead. A large amount of blood had streamed down his face and onto his clothing, according to the report.

He was transported the Wood County Hospital for treatment and once cleared was taken to the Wood County Justice Center.

Gdovin was charged with OVI/urine and failure to maintain reasonable control.
