Falcons finish strong to place seventh at Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. — The Bowling Green women’s golf team finished seventh out of 16 teams at Illinois State’s Redbird Invitational. The two-day event took place at the par 72, 6,010-yard Weibring Golf Club.

The Falcons had a stellar third round shooting a one-under par 287 as a team to finish seventh. For the three rounds BGSU shot plus-32 (896).

BGSU golfer Ava O’Sullivan finished tied for seventh at one over par (74-72-71-217) in her first tournament as a Falcon. Sammie Dolce finished tied for 19th at seven over par (77-75-71-223) in her collegiate debut.

Mallory Swartz came in tied for 44th at 13 over par (80-75-74-229), while Kayla Davis finished tied for 54th at 15 over par (82-78-71-231). Emily Pantig-Nystrom rounds out the BGSU lineup tied for 85th at 30 over par (88-74-84-246).

Olivia Steen competed as an individual and finished tied for 54th at 15 over par (79-79-74-232).

“I am pleased with the overall performance of the team this weekend,” BGSU coach Erin Fahey said. “After a tough first round, they battled back hard and played well the rest of the way.

“To finish the tournament with an under-par team score for round three was a great feeling and something we will continue to build off of for the future. Congratulations to Ava O’Sullivan who finished seventh at this event.”

Bradley won the team standings with a one over par 865, followed by Illinois State (866), South Dakota State (874), St. Thomas (882), Northern Illinois (882), South Dakota (891), BGSU (896), Butler (898), Northern Iowa (907), IUPUI (909), Drake (913), Illinois Wesleyan (919), Indiana State (935), Evansville (942), Eastern Illinois (96), Valparaiso (968),

BGSU returns to action on Sept. 25-26 at Colorado State’s Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
