Elmwood outshoots Riverdale, 46-32, in BVC opener

BLOOMDALE — Elmwood opened its first season of Blanchard Valley Conference football by handing Riverdale its first loss of the season, 46-32. It is Elmwood’s first win of the season against two losses while Riverdale falls to 2-1.

Elmwood back Brennan Hiser ran for 243 yards on 37 carries, quarterback Pierson Parsons completed 14-of-18 passes for 144 yards, back Andrew Traxler ran for 68 yards on 17 carries, and Ryken Zeigler had 14 yards on two carries.

Brady Marches led the Royals’ receiving corps with 78 yards on four catches, Gavin Solarik had 26 yards on four receptions, Kade Lentz had 21 yards on three catches, and Hiser had 19 yards on three catches.

The Royals’ defense was led by Jamie Almarez, who had six tackles, three assists and one sack. Parsons had an interception on defense and Hiser recovered a fumble.

After Riverdale scored the game’s first touchdown, Maraches scored on a 13-yard pass play, Hiser scored on a two-yard run, and Maraches caught a 44-yard TD pass to put the Royals ahead, 22-6, with 9:18 remaining in the first half.

After Riverdale scored two unanswered TDs, Hiser scored on an 11-yard run, but Riverdale came back on an 80-yard pass play with 6:36 remaining in the third quarter to close to within four, 30-26, with the difference being two more two-point conversions made by the Royals.

Hiser closed the scoring on a nine-yard run a five-yard run, despite a 97-yard interception return by Riverdale for a touchdown, to close the scoring.
