Judson Porter Spore, Jr., formerly of Sandusky as well as Huron and Perrysburg, Ohio, was born January 17, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Judson P. Spore, Sr. and Ruth E. Spore, née Knapp, and passed August 4, 2023.

Judson attended Sandusky High School, where he distinguished himself as a State Championship swimmer, having graduated in 1948. He attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, meeting Barbara Rose Simpson and following graduation married her on September 30, 1950, in Ligonier, Indiana. Working for General Motors at New Departure (1952-1963) in Sandusky, Ohio, Mr. Spore attended law school at the University of Toledo College of Law through scholarship provided by GM, graduating in 1963.

Mr. Spore joined the Sandusky law firm subsequently known as Tone, Madrell & Spore. In 1965- 1972, Judson was hired by Eltra Corporation of Toledo, Ohio as Corporate Counsel, and moved to Perrysburg, Ohio in 1966. Thereafter, Mr. Spore formed the Toledo law firm of Longthorne, Van Gutten & Spore located in Westgate in Toledo, Ohio in 1973.

In 1975 Judson was elected as Judge to the Perrysburg Municipal Court, where he served as Perrysburg’s first full-time judge, until 1989, and was assigned by former Supreme Court Justice Moyer to continue to serve as a visiting judge for the Northwest Ohio Municipal Courts through 2010, serving the municipalities of Oregon, Toledo, and Bowling Green. Later, after retiring from the bench Judson became Of Counsel for the Law Firm of Spore & Associates, LLC in Toledo and Perrysburg, Ohio.

Barbara and Jud had two children, Andrea J. Spore (1953) and John S. Spore (1955). Following the passing of Barbara R. Spore in 2002, Judson re-married to Joann R. Hunt, née Trieschmann in 2008, and resided in Huron, Ohio until Joann’s passing in 2020. Thereafter, Mr. Spore was cared for by his daughter Andrea in Sandusky, Ohio.

Mr. Spore was a member of the Toledo, Wood County and Lucas County Bar Associations, a seventy-one year member of the Perseverance Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Judges’ Association, the Sandusky Yacht Club and the Sandusky Sailing Club. He had formerly served as a Trustee of the Wood County Law Library, the Sandusky Yacht Club, the Perrysburg Ecumenical Housing, Inc, and was a board member of the Perrysburg Boat Club.

Judson P. Spore, Jr. is survived by his daughter, Andrea J. Spore, and her children, Ana Clair Printy, and Ashly Miller née Printy (Tim) and six grandchildren; also surviving is Jud’s son, John S. Spore (Mary née Kohl), and John’s sons Judson C. Spore (Cessna, née Carey) and Christian J. Spore.

Preceding Judson P. Spore, Jr. in death is his former spouse, Barbara R. Spore, née Simpson (2002), his parents, Judson P. Spore, Sr., and Ruth E. Spore, née Knapp and Judson P. Spore, Jr.’s sister, Barbara LeVeau, née Spore.

At Mr. Spore’s request, burial services will be private.
