The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Hayes Avenue east of Brush Street in Sandusky Township. The crash occurred on August 28, 2023 at approximately 10:28 p.m.
Troopers on scene learned that a 2013 Dodge Caravan driven by Daniel Whetstone , age 19 of Fremont was traveling westbound on Hayes Avenue. Chester L. Hill, age 55 of Fremont was on his bicycle also traveling westbound on Hayes Avenue. Witnesses stated that Hill was stopped in the roadway when he was struck by Mr. Whetstone’s vehicle.
Hill sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol appears to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation at this time.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, the Sandusky Township Fire Department, Sandusky County Coroner’s Office, Sandusky County EMS, and Rush’s Towing.
