Thomas’ field goal gives Jackets 17-14 win over Marysville

MARYSVILLE — Perrysburg place kicker Taylor Thomas, also a soccer player, kicked the game winning field goal from 26 yards out with eight seconds remaining to give the Yellow Jackets a 17-14 victory over Marysville Friday.

The win avenged a playoff loss to Marysville two seasons ago in the same Marysville stadium. Perrysburg improves to 2-0 while Marysville falls to l-1.

Perrysburg took a 7-0 first quarter lead as Josh Takats threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Matt Hubbard, which stood until halftime.

In the second half Nick Oros scored on a 72-yard TD run with Thomas adding his second conversion kick, putting the Jackets up 14-0.

But Matt Krukowskis scored on a two-yard run and Nathan Rush scored on a seven-yard run as Marysville tied the game at 14-14 in the third quarter, setting up Thomas’ game-winning field goal.

In a defensive battle, Perrysburg outgained Marysville, 167-136 on the ground and 84-51 in the air.

Oros finished with 109 yards rushing on 12 carries and Takats had 53 yards on 15 carries. Takats completed 9-of-19 passes for 84 yards.

Dominick Woods caught three passes for 26 yards, Zach Schroeder caught two passes for 22 yards, Gavin Fenneken had two catches for 20 yards, and Abram Hire had a catch for five yards.

Defensively for Perrysburg, Hubbard and Joseph Seney had one sack apiece.

For Marysville, Krutowskis ran for 55 yards on 12 carries, Wood had 42 yards on nine carries, Drue Fraker had a 12-yard run, and Bevin Bourquin ran for 12 yards on six carries.

Bourquin completed 4-of-8 passes for 56 yards. J.T. Hiltscher had a catch for 25 yards, Krutowskis had two catches for 19 yards, and Fraker caught two passes for seven yards.

Defensively, Carson Overbey had an interception for Marysville and Henry Anontvechrucks had a sack.
