BG school board focuses on personnel

The board of education of Bowling Green City Schools approved numerous personnel actions at its Tuesday’s meeting, including auxiliary services at non-public schools, educational advancements and professional development assignments.

The school board:

• Hired Carlos Jackson as middle school business technology teacher (contingent upon transfer of Nevada teaching license)

• Awarded the following supplemental contracts that were more than $1,000: Scott Wisniewski as head track and field coach, $6,560; James Gee, Jennifer Metzger and Samantha Preisner as high school marching band directors, each $2,650; Gee, Metzger and Preisner as marching band assistant directors, each $1,565; Gee, Metzger and Preisner as instrumental music directors at the high school, each $1,093; Janet Fu and Shawn Hudson as orchestra directors at the high school, each $1,640; Fu and Hudson as orchestra advisors at the middle school, $1,342 each; Beth Vaughn as high school choral director, $3,280; Jo Beth (Joanne) Gonzalez as high school drama director, $3,876; Bailey Nye and Lauren Tiell as SAB student council co-advisors, $1,250 each; and Corey Sexton as yearbook advisor, $1,490.

• Awarded student activity contracts to Rachel Barnett as assistant girls tennis coach at the high school, $3,361; Kristine King as ninth grade volleyball coach, $4,000; Tim Parish as quiz bowl advisor, $1,490; and Robert Atkinson as football equipment manager at the high school, $3,000.

• Employed Olga Meade as choir accompanist at $15.95 per hour, up to 26.5 hours a week plus performances; and Lisa Mullins as speech language pathologist at $42.66 per hour up to 19.5 hours per week.

Also at the meeting, the board:

• Accepted gifts, including $100 for Jr. Bobcat Basics from the Fite/Waldron Family; $269 to Bobcat Basics from the BG Noon Kiwanis Club; $100 to Jr. Bobcat Basics Fite/Waldron Family; $1,000 to the high school cross country program from an anonymous donor; $155 to the Panksepp, Quinn, Sanders & Wolfe Scholarship from Brian and Heather Hutchinson; snacks valued at $120 for the Bobcat Basics Pantry from Eileen Underwood and Richard Rowlands; clothing valued at $80 to Kenwood Elementary from an anonymous donor; a three-man Tek Sled valued at $6,000 to the middle school/high school football program from the Bobcat Athletic Boosters; music supplies valued at $150 to the district’s music programs from Anesa Miller; six iPads and cases valued at $2,597.94 to Kenwood Elementary from the BG School Foundation; student and teacher supplies valued at $100 to Crim Elementary from Sara Avery; bookbags and student supplies valued at $250 to Crim Elementary from Modern Woodmen c/o Lisa Zychowicz; student and teacher supplies valued at $1,000 to Crim Elementary from BGSU Conference & Event Services c/o Amy Davis; and school supplies and backpacks valued at a minimum of $1,000 to BGCS from Edward Jones Annual School Supply Donation Drive c/0 Kevin Cochrane and Julie Eichold.

• Entered into a service agreement with the Wood County Educational Service Center for prevention education on-site services for $17,854.

• Accepted an agreement for vision impaired services and/or orientation and mobility with the Midwest Regional Education Service Center for students at a cost of $693 plus $450 for mileage.

• Entered a rehab services agreement with Wood County Hospital to pay $95 per hour for speech therapy at St. Louis School in Custar.

Accepted a service agreement for special needs students with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for services including $580 for consultation fees, $6,833 for low vision services and $20,501 for braille services.

Entered into an agreement with Resolute Interpreting LLC for interpreting services at a rate of $65-$70 per hour.

Approved a contract with the Children’s Resource Center to provide three full-time case managers to the district for on-site and home-based support for at-risk students. The $40,625 payment will come from a Stronger Connections grant and wellness funds.
