Fair flower show in bloom starting Sunday

Help celebrate the Wood County Fair’s 150th anniversary at the flower show.

Enter floral arrangements, flower and plant specimens at the fair on Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This is a new day and time.

The second show starts on Thursday. The classifications are listed on the fair website or pick up a booklet at the fair office.

Down on the Farm with illustrator at fair

Join the Wood County District Public Library and the Wood County Fair down on the farm with author Will Hillenbrand.

Hillenbrand joins Kids Day at the Wood County Fair on Tuesday, and will be signing copies of his book, “Down on the Farm,” at the library booth under the Grandstand at the Wood County Fairgrounds from 1-3 pm.

Free books, donated by the fair, will be given out.

Hillenbrand grew up in Cincinnati listening to stories at his father’s barbershop. He enjoyed both telling and drawing those stories, and after going to school for art, he chose to pursue a career in illustrating children’s literature. He has over 70 books and holds awards and honors like the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators, ALA Notable Book Award, IRA Children’s Choice Awards, Best Children’s Books of the Year from the Bank Street College of Education and Parenting Best Books of the Year.

Community invited to Chamber Day at the fair

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce invites the community to Chamber Day at the Wood County Fair.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the conference rooms on the south side of the Pratt Pavilion.

Escape the heat and learn more about some of the businesses in Bowling Green. Everyone who attends will have the chance to spin a prize wheel to win fun giveaways. There will also be the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of the grand prize baskets.

Bliss plays at Perrysburg park

PERRYSBURG — Wednesday at Woodlands continue at noon with the band Bliss.

The lunchtime concerts take place in the Woodlands Park shelter area, 429 E. Boundary St. Bring a chair or a packed lunch and sit at one of the many picnic tables.

Bliss is an all-female band with striking harmonies and multi-instrumental talents.

What sets Bliss apart is not just their musical talent but also their commitment to nurturing a powerful sense of community. They actively take part in local events, fundraisers and charity concerts.

Members include vocalist Cindy McFarland, on bass; Brenda Holdridge, playing violin and percussion; vocalist M’lissa Prottengeier playing guitar; and harmonic director and vocalist Lorilee Ash-Green performing on keyboards and guitar.

BG’s first female firefighters talk to Kiwanis Club

The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club will meet Thursday at noon at the Slater Family Ice Arena Lounge at Bowling Green State University. Lunch will be available for $15 starting at 11:30 a.m.

Dolly Morgan and Kayla Laumann, the first female firefighters with the Bowling Green Fire Division, are the speakers.

Perrysburg summer rec hosts end-of-summer events

PERRYSBURG — The city’s summer recreation program has been in full swing since June with over 50 different activities keeping kids ages 3-14 years old busy this summer.

The most popular program this year was Games and Giggles with 210 children participating. Dodgeball was the second most popular with 160 kids registered. By the end of the program, recreation staff will have given out 2,880 Freezie Pops to the kids.

Next week is final week of programming and there are several free events scheduled for that week. All activities take place at Municipal Park, 915 Elm St.

On Wednesday, the Kids Color Run will take place at 11 a.m. with the half mile. The one mile will begin at 11:30 a.m. First Night Out will be held from 6-9:15 p.m. Perrysburg police will be serving free hot dogs to participants. This event will also feature several outdoor games including an inflatable obstacle course and a dunk tank. The Glow Roll will start at 9:30 p.m. Kids can bring their decorated and lit-up bikes to Municipal Park to ride around at dusk.

Thursday will be the Last Day at the Park event from 10 am.-1 p.m. Families can show up for a free hot dog lunch, participate in the inflatable obstacle course, dunk tank, outdoor games and much more!

First Night Out and Last Day at the Park are free, open house events with a variety of activities for children.

Registration is required for kids who want to participate in the Color Run and Glow Roll. Parents can sign them up on rec desk.

Coffee with the Birds, Bike with the Blue

Have Coffee with the Birds and the Wood County Park District on Wednesday from 8:30-10 a.m. at Otsego Park, 20000 W. River Road.

Enjoy a birding stroll with coffee. Start with a warm drink before heading out on the trail. Register for one or all monthly programs.

Bike with the Blue on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Black Swamp Preserve, 1014 S. Maple St.

Join a park officer for a leisurely ride down the Slippery Elm Trail. Learn the ways the park police department serves the community. There will be time for conversation before and after the ride. The round-trip distance will be a 9-mile ride to the Rudolph Bike Park and back.
